There is no cost to open an RESP using SmartSAVER’s Start My RESP online application. SmartSAVER partners exclusively with RESP providers who offer RESPs with no account set-up, enrolment or annual fee and no minimum contribution requirement. You are not required to contribute any money into your child’s RESP to receive the Canada Learning Bond.
The Canada Learning Bond can only be used for post-secondary education and must be used within 36 years. If the child doesn’t attend post-secondary education, the Canada Learning Bond and any matching grants must be returned to the Government. Any contributions you might make to your child’s RESP always remain your property and can always be returned to you.
